Ganguro UK Style

Well, here's something I never though I'd see ~ young British imitating the ganguro or yamamba style. This fashion of deeply tanned skin, garish make-up that looks like it's been applied by a five-year old and brightly dyed hair was probably at it peak in Japan at the turn of the century, but you can still see some of the young hanging out in Shibuya dressed like this.

Now, according to the BBC, the fashion has spawned some imitators in the UK, and you can see a couple of them dancing para para style in the first video clip, and then talking about the fashion in the second video, the link for which appears in the video window after the dance clip. It has to be seen to be believed.

  1. It's funny!
But they look quite cute without Yamanba make-up.
